11. What do you like best about your school?
Overall Summary
  • - It's fairly liberal in its politics and acceptance of students for who they are. Students are friendly and cooperative. - We are a cohesive class with only a small amount of open competitiveness. - My classmates and administration are very supportive - Theme based approach to learning medicine. Supportive faculty/deans. - Supportive environment and supportive peers. - Supportive environment. My classmates and the 3rd year class are very supportive. Professors are all very approachable after hours. - Faculty - the opportunities for service and interaction with the underserved -the theme based learning -the fairly friendly environment -the ethics curriculum -the nutrition curriculum -the evidence based medicine curriuculm - It was very easy to find a mentor/guide to help with career decisions. They were more than happy to help you come to a decision. - Many opportunities being in the state capitol - Opportunities for community outreach. Organ based themes during years 1 and 2. Strong clinical years. - The clinical experience during third and fourth year at Albany Medical Center is excellent. - Lots of opportunity of community outreach. Non-competitive atmosphere between student.

12. What do you like least about your school?
Overall Summary
  • - The library is too small and the facilities in general (classrooms, campus, library, etc.) really need to be modernized. - The teaching facult - Can be disorganized - Lack of adequate facilities for functions and studying. - Some of the professors are research focused. Pack too many details in a lecture. The curriculum does not incorporate access to patients until 3rd year. - Facilities - the clinical experience is variable depending on what attendings you work with -it's too expensive!!! - Administration. - Administration is out of touch with students and has lost student focus - Large variation in quality of lectures. - The cost of attendance is becoming overwhelming. Government loans may not cover tuition and living expenses. - It takes awhile to get used to the area if you are coming from outside of NYS. There are things to do, but you have to look for them.

13. Please share any other thoughts you may have about your school.
Overall Summary
  • - Expensive. Housing in area is reasonable. Few distractions in Albany. Close enough to NYC and Boston to get away!! - Conducive environment for learning - If your not from the area, Albany can appear pretty drab, but it grows on you. If I had to do it over, I would still choose Albany. - I think that this school has an average to below average pre-clinical experience, however the clinical years are much better. There is a lot of supervision on the floors and an excellent ancillary support staff.
