12. What do you like least about your school?
Overall Summary
  • - Bureaucracy--I once had to contact 3 different offices to reserve one room, and the third office then referred me to the first office!! - The hospital itself is a bit old and if you want anything done right (ie blood draws, dressing changes) often you have to do it yourself. - Housing is very tight, nothing to do in Washington Heights (but downtown is accessible), poor ancillary services (but forces you to learn good clinical skills). - The slightly competitive environment, the lack of progressive/liberal thinking. - location; ancillary services at hospital are very poor; physical plant, while improving, is fair at best; columbia university is a bureaucratic nightmare

13. Please share any other thoughts you may have about your school.
Overall Summary
  • - If you are interested in academic medicine or a competitive residency, then the cost is justified. But if you want to just be a practicing doctor in the community, say as a family practitioner or internist, I would advise you to save your money and go to your state school. - Despite the at times difficult working environement the residents and interns that are directly responsible for your training are wonderful. If I had it all to do over again and could pick any school I wanted I would still come here! - Columbia has amazing resources available for its students, but it's easy to get lost amidst the shuffle - be proactive and you'll have a wonderful experience! - It is a great place that deserves its outstanding reputation. - great school, great faculty, great students.
