12. What do you like least about your school?
Overall Summary
  • - The cost! But, it is doable...many students have NHSC or military scholarships and many (like myself) are taking the loans. - I least like the fact that some of our faculty seems unqualified and uninterested in being there. If they don't want to teach, why should I want to learn from them? - The MPH and other allied health people's influence - As with all university administration, ours has its frustrating points. The secretaries are overworked, as are the deans. Sometimes it takes some time for them to get things done. - cost, not very supportive of students - I'm satisfied - first year teaching was generally not very good-- there were some stand-outs, but I was disappointed. dean's office can sometimes be antagonistic. - the hospital, poor facilities, but new hopsital is on the way - The library sucks (fortunately, we can hop on the metro and go to the national library of medicine) - WAY too expensive, Administration overworked (too few) and consequently we are underserved. Feel as if we are milked to the bone financially. Despite paying an arm and a leg, we are required to pay for numerous extras.. and we are rarely "taken care of". Am graduating with a "fend for myself" attitude which is good for survival skills but lack of support is noteable. - poor career counseling and advising-you are basically on your own for residency application

13. Please share any other thoughts you may have about your school.
Overall Summary
  • - GW is a great school...it was my first choice and I have never once regretted choosing to come here. I know I'm getting the best education possible. And it is a bonus that I get to live in the DC area which is probably one of the best places in this country to spend 4 years of med school! - I think GW has a great atmosphere of comaraderie among its students. I have never felt as if I was in competition with my fellow classmates and have always felt that upperclassmen were more than willing to help and offer advice. - Its a great place for a wide range of clinical experiences in nearly a dozen hospitals across the city and surrounding areas. Students are generally laid back and fun to work with. The experience of living in DC speaks for itself. - i wouldn't go here if i had a choice - None - gw is a good school, probably with many of the same problems as other medical schools. dc is a great place to study medicine. - over priced - see above. You will get a very solid education here but you will pay serious $$$ for it. If you are accustomed to lots of "support" from your undergrad institution, it will be some culture shock.
