Overall Summary
1. What do you like best about your school?
Overall Summary
  • My brothers and sisters. We all are blood related to each other...
  • Upfront Clinical Experience and Case-Study Approach to Learning.
  • Not only is the environment built to furnish great insight into the field of medicine; the faculty, staff and by far the student body coalesce to yield a program that provides more information and friendship than one would imagine…To be blunt, I’ve learn a whole lot, not just from reading, but from more so from the integrated teachings from Case-Studies and in the Classroom.
  • The fact that the student to teacher ratio is 1.5/1 gives you a real hands on type of learning that you wont find at most other carribean schools
  • Case Study. I feel that the case based program is very effective because of the fact that i am the one who is doing the teaching to my peers. As you all know sometimes during class you can not comprehend everything that a professor teacher. Studies show that students recall only 50% of what is learned during class hours. The good thing about the case based is that you learn it and then teach it, which helps memorization and building social skillls
  • I like the fact that this school has teachers that are dedicated to help every student do well. Some teachers actually use weekends to help students do good on all subjects.
  • The best aspect about IAU is the small student teacher ratio. With an smaller student population, you get better support and attention from the professors in aiding you for the national boards and USMLE.
  • Case studies and the ability to work directly with patients as soon as you get here. The clinical experience is invaluable and being able to learn from case studies has really taught me a lot over the time that I have been here.
  • The case study program
  • I wouldn'e say I "like" anything. It's easier to pick something I don't hate as much as everything else. I'm gonna go with "the instructors showing up 15 minutes late to every class, and leaving 15 minutes early"
  • Couldn't think of any. Dramas, Dramas every day.
  • The professors really try to help you to do well, and they genuinely care.

12. What do you like least about your school?
Overall Summary
  • South Indian own school...
  • It has minor kinks here and there since it is still a new school.
  • As this is a fledgling university, starts-up have their ups and downs; however this is not to take away from the fact that most of the faculty and staff are willing to work with almost anything, in order to make the school better and bigger.
  • The fact that its a smaller school leads to people getting in your business more then they should
  • Climbing the stairs
  • The A/C kind of goes into absent seizures now and then. But getting better on the daily basis
  • The one thing that this school can improve on is upgrading the computer lab. The school can improve by adding more computers.
  • the ration student teacher ratio
  • Nothing ever gets done. The administration doesn't follow through on promises. Nothing is ever put in writing.
  • Welcome the "University" in a Mall,
  • Things can be a little slow administratively.

13. Please share any other thoughts you may have about your school.
Overall Summary
  • Think again and again!!!! Don't make fool of yourself...any worst school in carib is better then this....
  • USMLE pass rate has been good. The individual attention is terrific. Most of the staff are very well educated and helpful.
  • Professors are very friendly and go out of their way to help you in anyway possible. You don not have to get an appointment 2 weeks in advance for you to see them.
  • The school gives you a good experience with patients and hospital atmosphere. This goes from getting clinic experience from government owned clinics and weekly ER rotations at the local hospital
  • Overall the school is good, definitely different from the US, but aids you in pursuing your goals.
  • its great to have teacher that care, and help you when you need the time, they will teach and tutor to help any student so they can learn. even the students help each other out and tutor each other, its a great way to get ready for the USMLE1
  • It isn't worth it. You could put up with the headaches if they were accredited in all 50 states, but they are struggling with only 1 state (New York). The arguement I've heard is that all caribbean schools have poor administration. Knowing that, I'd pick one that has more to offer.
  • Worst "University" on thye Planet.
  • Before reading too far into comments made on sites like ValueMD, try to talk to current students, or even visit the Island to see what it is like for yourself.
